20.11.2013 Winchester project tutorial - function

I am very nervous of this tutorial because we should finish function analyse. I done some arrangements and different house shapes but I were kept on tenterhooks for losing something important.

During tutorial, I wrote some points need to improve.
1. Family members setting - one family, occupation, age, interest, habit
2. Well design house analyze
3. Prepare box model to play shape

Meanwhile, I realized why Joe always emphasis -- Design must depend on Function. No matter residential or commercial design, my job is according client's needs and characters to customise the appropriate house for them. This is function and design base. For example, Mother could need with an eye on baby, child could need playroom, freelance or Soho could need studio, elder or disabled person need consider accessibility...etc. Like Lego game, different functions make up different house shapes and reasonable. This is also she calls "Process". Ha~~ I like school~

1. Get material - MDF from Maudslay store then import CAD file and configuration.

Sketchup plugins - Edge tools & SUAPP

Sketchup has lots of plugins to enhance its function. Today, I want to share two plugins that useful to form planes especially after import from AutoCAD.
1. Edge tools : find and weld gaps .
2. SUAPP - Form plane.
1. Use "Edge tools" to find unclosed gaps, and then weld the gaps. (Must be patient)

2. Use "SUAPP" to form plane.

Conservation area in Winchester

Project2!! We should design a family dwelling in Winchester. When I read project brief, "Conservation area" is bold and eye-catching. Oh..conservation = restriction. Suppose, I should figure out what can I do or I can't do in this area.
I went to Winchester City Council's website..ha~It's right! They have a conservation area guidance note as below.

In this guidance mentions that trees in the conservation area are protected. Some trees marked as Tree Preservation Order (TPO) but for others we must give the Council six weeks written notice before lopping or felling them. (exclude-Fruit trees, trees with trunks less than 7.5 cm in diameter at 1.5 m above the ground).

Compare with site survey...Trees surround this site (mark as green color at below picture). I think protect and keep trees is very important in this project.

Project 1 learning

Even I had prepared myself for the worse..ha..still sad...too simple, lack skills, less structure, less....
Joe is right..Becasue not skillfull and knowledge to practice my idea, finally I went back to simple structure.
It's alright!!! Meanwhile, I understood what's going on, what I need improve more. Too many first time in this project, a good learning. Everything will be alright in next project.
